6G-SKY
6G for Connected Sky
The multi-layer architecture of future 6G networks requires a collaborative effort from the telecommunications, aviation, and aerospace industries. The project innovations focus on key elements to demonstrate technologies that underpin this architecture and address technical challenges at an early stage. Building on 5G Release 17, which for the first time supports communication over non-terrestrial networks such as satellites and High Altitude Platforms (HAPs), the project partners are developing this concept further towards a generalized 6G architecture for both terrestrial aerospace and satellite-based communication links. The concepts will be demonstrated not only through simulations but also validated through real-time implementations for airborne radio links and satellite communications. The 6G-SKY project is well suited to prepare the German partners for 6G standardization in the 3GPP organization from around 2025 and to develop early solutions for 6G.
